Representativesfrom ORSA shared their experience while team from the Scout Group providedfacts to construct the Year Plan. Theyear plan’s main focus remained at grooming the Scout Group to a higher levelby the time the RISGO 2013 be held at Dharamaraja to commemorate 100 years ofscouting at Dharamraja.

Annual Seth Pirith Chanting and the Arms Giving to Mark the Beginning of the Calendar Year

Continuingthe convention of starting the calendar year with Seth Pirith and Arms Givingheld on 7^th and 8^th January 2012 at Lake View Park ScoutsCentre and the “Budu Medura”.

TheChanting of Seth Pirith held on 7^th evening while the Arms Givingheld on 8^th.

The event was a joint effort of 1^st KandyDharmaraja Scouts and the Old Rajans Scouts Association. From the scout group,the scouts of group no 7 organized all the activities while Mr. SamathaDharmadasa led the team from ORSA. All credit should go to scouts who showedhow skill full they are, even at young age to organize an event as such toperfection.

Let thisyear be a successful one for both ORSA and the 1^st Kandy DharmarajaScout Group.

Yearend Hunting Night 2011

The yearendHunting Night 2011 of ORSA successfully held on 31^st night at theLake View Park International Scouts Centre with the participation of members,staff members Dharamaraja College and well wishers.

The YearendHunting Night was organized as a relaxing evening with full of food and fun ofstories and songs. Even though the conventional Hunting Night is quitedifferent, the event was thoroughly enjoyed by the participants.

Everybodywho took part in the event worked their backward cooking knowledge from their scoutdays and enjoyed every part of it.

Senior Member of ORSA, Mr.Lalith Kulathunga conducted the program while all the juniors helped otherswith food.

Mr Sarath Mataraarachchi patron of Old Rajans Scout Association has been appointed as one of the Deputy Chief Commissioners of Sri Lanka Scouts Association.

Previously Mr. Mathararachchi held the Provincial Scouts Commission of Central Region. He was also one the most successful District Commission for Kandy District as well.

Importantly he was the Group Scout Leader of Dharamaraja College Scouts Group for 13 long years, where 1^st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group won the island merit flag for consecutive years.

The Old Rajans Scout Association wishes him best of luck in the new office.

Special Gathering of ORSA’s Colombo Brotherhood on 20th December 2011

A special gathering of Colombo Brotherhood of ORSA held on 20^th December 2011 at Cey-Nor Seafood Restaurant. The special guest of the event was Mr. Shiraz Salih, the Deputy Chief Commission of Sri Lanka Scout Association.

ORSA’s patron Mr. Sarath Matharaarachchi, Officials of ORSA , members of Colombo brotherhood were present at the occasion.

The gathering was organized to felicitate Mr. Shiraz Salih and discuss about the RISGO 2013 program.

Mr. Shiraz Salih, addressing the gathering expressed his and Sri Lanka Scouts Association’s fullest support to RISGO 2013. The gathering was also addressed by Mr. Sarath Matharaarachchi, Mr. Ananda Melpitiya, Mr. Suminda Withanaarachchi.

1^st committee meeting of the newly elected executive committee of ORSA held on 10^th December 2011 at Neits Hotel in Thalwatta.
The meeting was attended by a record number of committee members and also by their family members.

The meeting mainly focused on planning the year ahead with projects that are to be carried out and resourcing each of them.

Highlight of the day was our old scout Mr. Menikpura who he is employed in Dubai, making a donation of Rs. 50000.00 to RISGO fund.

The surprised arrival of seasonal guest Santa made everyone happy with gifts distributed among everyone.

ORSA organized a “Seth Pirith” and Dhamma discussion to Scout group who are to sit for O/L exams this month (Dec 2011). The event was held at “Natha Devala” premises on 26^th November . The event was conducted by Ven. Sagara Thero on the acceptance of invitation from Ven. Gangodavila Ariyagavershi Thero. Our sincere thanks go to both the theros for their contributions to make the event a very pleasant and meaningful experience for the scouts.

The event was participated by the scouts of Troup No: 7, parents of them and ORSA officials.

Kandy, November 25, 2010: The 33rd Annual General Meeting of Old Rajans Scout Association (ORSA) was held on November 20th at Hotel Lagoon View in Pottapitiya, Kandy. ORSA member Dr. Rohan Wijekoon, Assistant Director, Department of Agriculture graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

ORSA is the first old scout association in the island which is formed in 1978, has been serving since its inception to the Dharmaraja College scout group and the scouting in Kandy district.

At the AGM, the ORSA launched the several activity programs scheduled to implement during next year for the centenary celebrations of Dharmaraja scouting which falls on 2013. The meeting was mainly focused on planning and review progress of events to be held in 2013.

Kandy, November 25, 2010: 33^rd Annual General Meeting of Old Rajans Scouts Association (ORSA) held on November 20, 2011 at Hotel Lagoon View in Pottapitiya, Kandy. The meeting was attended by its membership, patrons of the association, and staff representatives of the Principal of the Dharamaraja College. The chief guest on the day was Dr. Rohan Wijekoon, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture who himself is an Old Rajans Scout.

Highlight of the Day

With this particular AGM, the ORSA kick starts its last calendar year of seven years run-up to commemorate 100 years of scouting at Dharamaraja College, Kandy. The meeting was mainly focused on planning and review progress of event to be held on 2013 as Rajans Internal Scouts Gathering of Centennial (RISGO 2013).

Priceless words from former Principal Mr. A.P. Gunarathana and former Group Scout Leader Mr. Bandara Weerasekara provided the courage and strength to the association ahead challenging year.

Great Loss for Rajans

Col. K.B.S. Welagedera had passed away morning of 13^th January 2010.
Col. Welagedera came to Dharmaraja with his brothers in about 1951 from Trinity College. He was a keen senior cadet who attended the cadet camp at Diyatalawa in 1956, that won the Battalion Banner for Dharmaraja.

As a teacher he went on to become the Head Master of the Primary School at the Maligawa Square. He also held office in the Cadet Corp in the Sri Lanka Army and rose to the rank of a Colonel. Col. Wele was a founder member of the Old Rajans' Cadet Union and was its Secretary till the time of his death.

He in fact was the unfailing live wire of the Cadets' Union and was in a great measure responsible for the Union's support to the College Cadet Squad, which due to these efforts won the Hermon Lose Trophy twice. With his death Dharmaraja lost a valuable Old Boy, a jewell on her crown.

Though he consistently contributed to Dharmaraja selflessly, he never asked anything in return.

His honesty and integrity was immaculate.

We mourn his death. May he his sojourn in Samsara be shortened.

Last Respects for Our Beloved Colleague Mr. J. L. Jayasinghe

Pirith Chanting on 8^th Jan

Keeping with the convention of starting the calender year with the blessings of Dhamma, both ORSA and 1^st Kandy Dharmaraja Scouts group jointly organized a Pirith Chanting Ceremony and a Arms giving to Maha Sanga.

Weather evil failed to avoid us being having the Pirith Chanting at our own Den. The Pirith Chanting Ceremony was held on 8^th Saturday to demolish bad evils and to get good blessings for the upcoming year.

The Principal Mr.S.M. Keerthirathna, Group Scout Leader Mr. Manjula Wijesiriwardena, members of ORSA and Scouts from the 1^st Kandy Scout Group were present at the event.

Arms Giving on 9^th Jan

Although weather evil was defeated previous day, it had partial win on following day by forcing us to move the Arms giving from the Den to Sri Sangarajah Piriwana.

The event was very well organized by the main organizer Mr. Asitha Edirisooriya and the Scout group.

Once again it was pure determination and courage for success of both ORSA and Scouts guided the event to be a success.
